Lisa Weldon, PMH-NP
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner offering medication management for patients suffering from serious mental illness who seek a truly collaborative relationship with their provider. My experience includes persons suffering from Major Depression, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, OCD, and body focused repetitive behaviors including picking at skin and pulling hair. I also specialize in helping people very slowly taper off benzodiazepines.
Often, we work together to reduce excess medication. Psychiatric medication management is quite personal; I rely on open communication from the patient in order to achieve best results. Patients have told me that they feel safe, that they feel heard, that they feel understood.
I hold an a Master of Education from Lesley University, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of New Hampshire, and my psychiatric nurse practitioner education was through Yale School of Nursing, a two year, in-person post-master's certificate program that included over one thousand hours of clinical training.
Prior to working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I served as psychiatric nurse for five years, and also have a background as a high school Special Education Teacher and Evaluation Team Facilitator in Boston Public Schools, where I performed educational testing and assessment. I also served as a Reading Specialist.
I am licensed in the state of New Hampshire to practice independently as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP), licensed through the Drug Enforcement Agency, and a member of the New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Association, and the American Psychiatric Nurses' Association.
I served as an inpatient psychiatric nurse for five years, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, also worked per diem at Farnum Detox in Manchester, and Portsmouth Regional Hospital Behavioral Health Unit.
I have served as the support and care partner for family members. Like many of those I serve, my family has experienced difficulties finding a provider, accessing care, relapses, trouble finding housing and therapists, watched them suffer severe medication side effects, had trouble with gaps in insurance, difficulties getting medication because of insurance or prior authorizations- all the same difficulties that most of my patients have gone through. During those times of trouble, NAMI New Hampshire was a great support to my family.
Payment, Insurance & Policies
Insurance/Forms of Payment
Medicare, Anthem/ Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim United Behavioral Health ,and Cigna are accepted, as well as private pay.
For private pay patients
We will provide you with what's known as a Super Bill, so that you may receive reimbursement from your insurer, should you desire it. We do accept Health Savings Account debit cards/checks, debit and credit cards, and cash.
Will my prescriptions be covered?
If you have insurance, your prescriptions are usually covered, although copays can sometimes be high. If you do not have insurance for your prescriptions, we are familiar with the costs of medications/can advise on costs in your specific instance. We are familiar with cost savings plans offered by manufacturers and will assist our patients to get the most affordable medication, including doing paperwork and assisting with filling out forms.
Plan on 60-90 minutes for your first appointment; subsequent medication management appointments are likely to run 20-30 minutes. Should you require hospitalization for psychiatric reasons, a post-hospitalization appointment is a one hour appointment.
The cash payment cost for a one hour evaluation is $225, for 1/2 hour medication management: $100-$165, depending on complexity.
Frequency of Appointments
Most people find that once their medication regimen is stable, they only want to check in every 2-3 months or so. If your condition is not stable, or you prefer more frequent contact, appointments can be arranged more frequently.
Late or No Show
Patients who present more than 15 minutes late will be considered a no show. Late or no show appointments will be billed half the cost of the appointment, as insurance allows. Repeated late arrivals or no shows will result in referral to other provider(s) for services.
